Here in Minnesota people are predominantly of Scandinavian origin. I think of lefse (from Norway) and of course, lutefisk! They sell lefse in the grocery stores here and my father would always eat lutefisk during the holidays. My father's side of the family came from Sweden and Norway.

Yeah, I gotta brother-in-law from Minnesota. He's been living in Texas for several years now. He's got some strange English accent, part Scandinavian and part Southern, plus some other twist. It's got me intrigued to say the least we he speaks. I'll have to ask him if he's got anything related to Sweden on his family side.

Well, if Canada doesn't count due to my miminal experience, I would say I'm really impressed by some people I met in Holland. Heard them speak their lang , then heard them speak Eng. It was like dead-on accurate. But, you didn't mention accent, unless you meant that too. Otherwise, I'd have to re-think that.
